Home care in Wilson County, North Carolina

Praise Homecare Inc is licensed in Wilson County and runs from one office here, which is why this is the shortest drive we make and the only county where the agency itself is a neighbor. All nine services, in Wilson, Elm City, Stantonsburg, Lucama and the rest of it. (877) 652-2907 is answered at every hour.

Town by town

Wilson, Elm City, Stantonsburg, Lucama, and the roads between them

Wilson is the only city in the county. Around it sit Elm City, Black Creek, Lucama, Saratoga, Sims and Stantonsburg, and both Kenly and Sharpsburg straddle a county line, so part of each of those is in Wilson County too.

If you want a map of where older people in this county actually gather, use the congregate meal sites run by Meals on Wheels Wilson County: Wilson, Elm City, Stantonsburg and Lucama. Four rooms, four ends of the county, and the same four drives a caregiver makes.

About 79,000 people live here and close to one in five is over 65, a little above the share for North Carolina as a whole, on the Census Bureau’s 2020 to 2024 American Community Survey. The same source puts household income inside the city of Wilson below the county figure around it. That gap does not change who needs care. It changes how the money conversation goes, which is why how families pay for this is a page of its own.

North Carolina ties an in-home aide agency to its own county, the counties touching it, or 90 minutes on the road, whichever reaches further (10A NCAC 13J .1107(h)). Six counties border Wilson. Five of them are already on our list.

On the public record

Look us up before you believe a word of this

Three of the things a family is asked to take on faith when choosing an agency are, in North Carolina, published. Here is where ours sit.

  • License HC7440, county of record Wilson You can check this

The state publishes a list of every licensed home care agency each month, with the number, the county and the scope. Ours reads Companion, Sitter and Respite, and In-Home Aide. That is precisely what we sell, and there is nothing on the file we are not telling you about.

  • A registry your family can search too

North Carolina requires an employer to check the Health Care Personnel Registry before hiring anybody into a home, and forbids hiring anyone carrying a substantiated finding on it. The register is public. You do not need our permission to read it.

  • A criminal record check, on every offer

Under state law any job offer that involves going into a client’s home is conditional on consenting to a criminal history check, and it runs state and national with fingerprints for anyone with less than five years in North Carolina. Refuse the check and we cannot employ you.

Who else a Wilson family can call, and where we stop

Paid care is one piece. Some of what a family needs in this county is free, local and older than we are.

Wilson County runs a Senior Center, and it runs a Caregiver Support Program out of it, which exists for the daughter rather than for her mother. Meals on Wheels Wilson County is delivered through the Wilson County Office of Senior Citizens Affairs, Inc. Neither of those is a competitor of ours and we will name them on the phone.

Wilson also sits inside the Upper Coastal Plain Area Agency on Aging, known as Region L, which covers Edgecombe, Halifax, Nash, Northampton and Wilson. Of the ten counties we cover, only Wilson, Nash and Halifax fall inside it. It is worth knowing here and it would be wrong to tell a family in Goldsboro or Smithfield the same thing.

One correction we make often: the Alzheimer’s Association’s Eastern North Carolina Chapter has no Wilson office. It is based in Raleigh and the way in is its support group finder, which will point you at a group you can actually reach. For a family two years into this, an evening with people in the same year of it is not a small thing.

And the line we hold: Praise Homecare Inc is a licensed non-medical home care agency. Bathing, dressing, meals, laundry, errands, company, and medication reminders only, not administration. Where a licensed health professional is already involved, our caregiver works around them and reports what changed.
